Bat Boy the Musical

Dear Friends of Live Bait,

I’m writing to tell you about a show that’s playing here at Live Bait Theatre next week.  Black Tie Productions, Mount Allison’s musical theatre society specializing in small cast musicals, presents Bat Boy, the Musical here at Live Bait from March 18-21.

The show, with book and lyrics by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming and music by Laurence O’Keefe, is based on a 1992 Weekly World News story about a half-boy, half-bat, dubbed the Bat Boy, found living in a cave.  It had a successful run off-Broadway in 2001 and went on to play London’s West End and has had scores of productions around the world.

The play deals with serious themes such as hypocrisy, acceptance, forgiveness and racism, but the serious moments are interspersed with slapstick, irony, camp and horror.  The music is wide-ranging and covers many styles, including rock, rap, gospel and showtunes.

It has been my great pleasure to work with the talented cast of Mount Allison students over the last few months as the director of “Bat Boy”.  I have had so much fun and been very impressed with their commitment to the show.

Further details about the show follow below, including ticket information and showtimes.  There are only five performances, so come get sucked into the dark, funny, twisted world of “Bat Boy”! You’ll have a great time.  A warning though: the show contains mature subject matter and isn’t suitable for children.
